Katy ISD to honor KEYS Mentors of the Year

Katy Independent School District's Partners in Education is honoring its 2010 KEYS mentors of the year.

The annual Keep Encouraging Youth toward Success fundraiser,  is honoring its mentors of the year Ties & Tiaras, will be held on Thursday, Feb. 18 from 6-8:00 p.m. at Agave Road.

This year's KEYS mentors of the year include Dana Abbott, nominated by WoodCreek Junior High; Jim Burns, Mayde Creek High; Chris Crockett, Bear Creek Elementary; Perry Cummins, Seven Lakes High; Rebecca Fox, Mayde Creek High; Chris Hicks, Taylor High; Christine Jackson, Mayde Creek Elementary; David Klingler, Taylor High; and Wayne Patterson, Bear Creek Elementary.

With more than 900 mentors working with children on the brink of success across KISD, the designation of “Mentor of the Year” is a significant one.

They are selected based on their years of service, the number of children they have mentored and their depth of commitment to those children.

Collectively, these mentors represent 43 years of service to KEYS and the students they work with.

The event will also include the Salvation Army Harbor Light Choir entertaining guests as they are treated to hors d’oeuvres and beverages and bid on a collection of KISD student artwork and unique gift baskets during a silent auction.

As reported by the Katy Times.
