Yesterday, I was able to participate in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure 5k walk. This was my first 5k walk and it was a wonderful experience. There are many people around me that have been affected by breast cancer. My mamaw is a survivor of breast cancer for over 15 years as well as several coworkers have had family members with this type of cancer and one even lost a family member to this menace. I got to walk with a wonderful and hilarious group of women from my office, which made the walk even more enjoyable. One of them was a survivor and got to walk the Survivor trail and even got a pink carnation.
Along the walk there were several interesting things to see. Near the beginning of the walk there was a very funny man with a fake black fro wig on dancing to the music, and beside him was what looked to be an old gnomish wizard. About near the half-way mark there was a middle school band playing upbeat music to help keep the walkers motivated. Also there were water stations all along the way thanks to Jason’s Deli and Kroger’s. Near the 3 mile mark of the race I got to hear a good band playing, Billy Jean by Michael Jackson. This pumped up many of the people walking and some even started dancing and singing along.
This was an experience I will not soon forget and I hope to be able to do this walk again next year.
