KATY We moved to the Katy area over twenty years ago primarily for the highly acclaimed Katy Independant School District. We were very active in all the school programs, from the band boosters, swim team, and choir to sports events. We were also very involved in our church as our daughters were in the church choir and Polly taught Sunday school. We love the Katy life style, which is a much slower pace than Houston. The people are friendly and know one another. There is so much to see and do in Katy. The Katy Rice Festival, which was October the 10th and 11th in Old Town Katy is a must. Every year around this time, Old Town Katy will shut down several city blocks. There is so much to see and do. There will be craft and food booths, cotton candy, face paintings, a carnival, continous live music on two seperate stages and so much more. You will not want to miss this, truly it is a lot of fun. Shopping in the Katy area is fabulous, from the Katy Mills Mall, on the south side of Interstate 10, to La Centerra open air mall located on Highway 99 and Cinco Ranch Blvd. Katy Mills Mall is one of the largest malls in south Texas offering over 200 different shops such as; Bass Pro Shop, Tommy Hilfiger, Ann Taylor Loft, Bed Bath & Beyond, Neiman Marcus, Books-A-Million and Polo Ralph Lauren, just to name a few. The Katy Field Day Food Court in Katy Mills Mall host a variety of eating establishments, a carousel, and a rock wall. LaCenterra open air mall has a European flair, and is a great way to spend a lazy Saturday and/or Sunday afternoon browsing all the shops and resturants. Christmas at LaCenterra is something to see and experience. The large Christmas tree in the courtyard, the Christmas lights and Christmas music brings the season to life. Some nights they have Christmas Carolers from one of the local school choirs.
